Biography

Dick Hill, 58, of Peoria Heights, IL, passed away at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL, with his family by his side.

Dick was born on August 6, 1947 in Peoria, son of Collyer R. and Beatrice M. (Fisk) Hill Modglin.  He married Cheryl Anne Griffin on July 16, 2004 in Pekin, IL.  She survives.

He is also survived by his two sons:  Richard “Rick” W. Hill of Glasford, IL and Brent E. Hill of Creve Coeur, IL, daughter:  Mindy Hill-Fryman and her husband Michael of Washington, IL, four sisters:  Colleen Dearman and her husband Bill of East Peoria, IL, Mary E. Hill of Morton, IL, Ruth Bohannon and her husband Mel of Peoria, and Ethel Gress and her husband Herb of Peoria, and nine grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson:  Brent Edward Hill, Jr.

Over the years, Dick was employed in sales at several cemeteries in central Illinois and western Missouri.  In younger years, Dick enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and swimming.  As a child, he was the Box Hockey Champion of Logan Field.  Later in life, his love for playing cards continued and he enjoyed listening to country music and the oldies, playing computer games, and hanging-out with his family and friends.  He loved NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was his favorite driver.  Dick was always a strong person and had to deal with a lot of adversity in his life.  He overcame many obstacles.  His wife, children, grandchildren, sisters and friends were the things most important to him.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at Unity Church in Peoria, with the Rev. Joey Watt officiating.  Brandon Arneson played the piano and led the congregational hymns.  "One More Day" by Diamond Rio and "Love Me Tender" by Elvis Presley were played, during the dismissal.

Visitation was held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services at the church.  During the visitations, Dick's family displayed a 3' x 5' checkered flag, a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. die-cast car and Dick's Dale Earnhardt, Jr. baseball cap to honor Dick's love of racing.  They displayed family pictures and Dick's "World's Greatest Grandpa" baseball cap to honor Dick's love and devotion to his family.  They also displayed a winning Blackjack and Poker hand, Poker chips, all sixes Yahtzee! roll and several score cards from Yahtzee! games of Dick and Cheryl's to honor Dick's love of gaming.  Dick's friends and family enjoyed listening to the songs of the 1950's and early '60's.

Interment was held at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.  A reception for family and friends was hosted, after the interment, at Colleen's home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Illinois Clinical Oncology Foundation at Oncology Hematology Associates of Central Illinois.
